How about Rooting Dell Streak with Froyo 2.2

I read a lot of blogs on the internet about Rooting your Android.  But, it was hard to find something specific to Dell Streak and with Froyo 2.2 untill I found this

This blog states that z4root will work on Dell Streak running Froyo 2.2 and a lot of feed back is there.  the problem you can not find it on Android market!  so here is the link to download it.

So, It did not work for me.  it locks the phone and the phone start acting weard.  So I have to restart it.
By the way, I got the unlock my phone, just by calling AT&T and asking to give me the unlock code because I will need to used overseas.  Got the code from AT&T by email few days later and it worked first time.

Update my Streak to Froyo, Yes!

Wow, I just did it!!!  I upraded my Streak Android 1.6 to Android Froyo 2.2.  What a difference!  not even related!  Then I am doing an official upgrade from Dell, by going to this link  http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg and downloading the package for the upgrade... I will see what happens in a little bit :)
I have to tell you it was so simple, and worth all the reading and researching...
I am so happy that I did it!!!!

I am still thinking about this Streak

Should I send it back?  I really do not like to be cheated!

I bought this phone from AT&T and Dell knowing that they will be updating the OS to Froyo and I been a victim to a lot of false advertisements before, but now I have to option to tell them NO, NO, NO.

Well, I like the hardware very much, I also like Android and think it has a great future in mobile phones and smart devices.  knowing all that and that the update to Froyo is possible I think I will keep the phone.  I am so excited to work on Android development, and by the way, here is a link to install Java JDK 1.5 on Ubuntu 10.04 and later http://steve-on-sakai.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-install-sun-java-15-on-ubuntu.html

We will see what happens, I just need to find more information on the Froyo update.

Did the update from AT&T get delayed again

That is not real!  would they delay the update again?  After their customer support confirmed the update is being done on the phone? Wow that is too much.
There must be a Law or legal action to hold companies like AT&T from false advertisement that makes them take all the money while we get stuck with un-finished product / work like Andriod 1.6

A discussion I heared about forcing your Streak to Froyo 2.2

So what is it or what does it do QDLTool?
I read that you can update your Streak to Froyo 2.2 by following that procedure, does it do any changes to your phone?  does this mean that dell support will be effected?

I found the following links that confirm that the update to Froyo 2.2 is being done today and untill the end of the week!  I actually talked to a Dell rep. @800-308-3355 and she confirmed the update.

AT&T how does this work?

AT&T thinks that my Dell Streak that I bought and was locked to work only with AT&T is a netbook not a phone!! So I spent a long time on the phone trying to convince the operator that Dell Streak is an Android Smart Phone! To put back my unlimited data plan in my account.

Me: Now, is there an update to my phone?
AT&T: what update??!!!
Me: The Android Update to Froyo 2.2?
AT&T: Not sure, do not have any information on this!

Skype Does not support my Device!!! Why

I used Skype a lot with my iPhone, it did not do everything I needed but, it worked good.  So, Try to add it to my Streak, I got this message, "Sorry, Skype mobile is not available for your phone, switch to one of Verizon's best-selling BlackBerry and Android 3G smartphones"
WHY, WHY, WHY???  is not Dell Streak a Smart Android phone too??? What is the deal here?
Android is based on Linux and I have Skype on my Ubuntu working great!!!

Android Dell Streak with AT&T

Got my Android Dell Streak on January 7th, 2011 as my birthday gift for my self :)
I have been researching the Android phones for a long time after I got fed up with iPhone crap! "you cannot do this and you cannot do that...".  but, was it worth the change?  Is AT&T the main show stopper?
Well, I heard and read that Dell should come up with Android update to Froyo 2.2 for the Streak but it has been delayed few times.  Recently the unlocked phones got the update and AT&T phones did not.  Who is holding that update?
